Question

My friend and I would like to publish a book. There are some pictures on line that we would like to include but which may be under copyright. How does one go about getting to use them? We live in Florida. Also how do we copyright an idea?

Answer

As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. To publish a copyrighted picture, you need the consent of the owner. Regarding ideas, they can't be copyrighted. If the idea meets certain legal standards, it can be patented. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.

Mr. Franchise - Kevin B. Murphy, B.S., M.B.A., J.D.
