The Great Lakes Blizzard hits Buffalo, NY. Star Wars opens in cinemas and subsequently becomes the then-highest grossing film of all time. President Carter signs legislation creating the United States Department of Energy. Elvis Presley dies at age 42.

1978- The Copyright Act of 1976 takes effect, making sweeping changes to the United States Copyright Law. President Carter decides to postpone production of the Neutron Bomb - a weapon which kills people with radiation but leaves buildings relatively intact. The Camp David Accords: Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat begin the peace process at Camp David, Maryland. The Camp David Accords are signed between Israel and Egypt. The first Susan B.
