If your engine light won't go off can you shut it off by disconnecting the battery?

If your engine light won't go off can you shut it off by disconnecting the battery?
Please don't remove the battery because there must be a connection problem in the wire of the car or jeep or 4WD.Because I have a jeep Cherokee 1996 classics in that there was a connection problem of the AC wire so check your car out on computer.And please reply which car you have.
