Hello. In my opinion, it is too soon to suggests abandonment, unless your grandchildren are at risk. For instance, if your ability to care for them or their access to medical care is a problem, then you should seek a guardianship now. With a guardianship in place you may be able to qualify for state assistance for them. However, this is a very involved process and I strongly urge you to seek the advice of an attorney in your area.
