Is a hand written Will recognized as legal by the State of Texas?

Question

Is a hand written Will recognized as legal by the State of Texas?

Answer

Possibly. It has to conform to the Texas guidelines. It also has to be ENTIRELY in the handwriting of the testator. As a lawyer who does a lot of probate, I tend to find that the money "saved" by doing your own will is a small fraction of the increased cost trying to probate one of these.

Answer

They can be, but I've yet to encounter one that did not bring some serious (sometimes fatal) issues to the table. If you're thinking of preparing one, stop and contact an estate planner to help you. If you're thinking of offering one for admission to probate, prepare for some likely difficulty.
