What would cause your car to not start its a 1996 Chevy Cavalier 2.4L?

What would cause your car to not start its a 1996 Chevy Cavalier 2.4L?
Well I have just gotten over this problem in my cavalier recently so my advice is to look at the engine at night time in dim light where the starter is l;ocated. If you see smoke or a spark on cables around the starter that is most likely the problem.
