How does four inches of water get under the carpet on the passenger side of a 2002 Passat where the transmission modulator happens to be?

I have heard from other forums that passat moonroofs are known for not sealing correctly and allowing water to enter the interior of the vehicle while closed. I don't know if VW actually acknowledges the issue or not, but it does seem to be a problem. I can't think of any other way water would get into the car, unless there is a hole in the bottom of the vehicle and the car is 'splashing' water in there somehow.VW has a service bulletin regarding blocked sun roof drains. If your drains are plugged from ditr / debris, the carpet will get wet and mold will form. You may also have a short in the wiring harness. Repair this as soon as you can!
I had a problem with weep holes backing up. In the lip of the moon roof you will see weep holes, they run down the door panels. You need to blow them out at least once a year. VW knows this problem exists but won't do anything or tell you about it because too many of us have had interior damage caused by water. They don
t want to admit to a problem and be held responsible. Good Luck
