In 1995, my fiance went with his ex to the local DPS office and changed her name to his without having to show a marriage license. No legal marriage exists. The problem this has created for the ex is they won't change her license back to her given name because there is no divorce decree. The problem for me is we may have to do a divorce before we can get married. They have been apart 12 years. Is he legally married to her? We are in Texas.
