What is the name of th sensor that tops out the speed on the car?
There is no sensor that controls top speed. On computer controlled vehicles, the speed sensor sends input to the computer and the top speed is limited by the computer (pcm, ecu, whatever the manufacturer refers to it as). It is a preset value programed in but can be changed with reprogramming but on most cars the limited top speed is not much below the top speed the vehicle is capable of due to final drive gearing and maximum engine operating RPM, with very few exceptions usually being high performance high horsepower models.
