At my work I am really pushing to get full time with benefits. I have been working for the company well over a year and have always worked 32-40 hours a week. But I have always been classified as part time. The company is now telling me that in order to get gull time I would have had to worked a full 40 hours a week for 6 months. Now this does not sound right to me. Is this legal?
Answer
There is very little legal regulation of benefits, even less than wages which at least have a minimum. Unless you are being discriminated against based on gender, age, race, etc., there is nothing illegal about setting whatever policy the employer wants on when benefits are included in a compensation package and when they are not.
