After filing an answer, and I wish to add amendments, how many days do I have to file my amendments?

The general rule is that you need court permission to file an amended answer. Are the amendments really necessary? Does it raise defenses that must be raised? Will the other side stipulate to your filing an amended answer? if it is Small Claims Court you can probably do it without court permission as everything is very informal.
