If i have a mortgage in my name only and i die, and leave the house in my will to my wife, will she have to pay off the mortgage?

Question

If i have a mortgage in my name only and i die, and leave the house in my will to my wife, will she have to pay off the mortgage?

Answer

If she wants to keep the house, yes. She is likely not personally responsible for it, assuming no signature on the mortgage or note, but the house remains as security for the payment. They can foreclose and include her interest when they seek to satisfy their debt.
